2021: Escaping The Rut (Part 1)

So we’re into 2021 and we’ve already been put in place with our own expectations. Once again we face a year with a big international incident, even if isn’t on my own British shores. While many of us consider what’s next in lockdown, I’m looking carefully at areas I’m stuck in.

Over the years, I’ve felt really stuck. We’re talking a mixture of making huge financial mistakes, taking on too much at one time and neglecting essential parts of things. I’ve been homeless of my own accord, made homeless not of my own accord and looked death so many times in the face, you become numb.

When I think of getting stuck in a rut, I think of massive 4x4 vehicle stuck in the mud that takes strength and smarts to get yourself out of it.

When I think of getting stuck in a rut, I think of massive 4x4 vehicle stuck in the mud that takes strength and smarts to get yourself out of it. I think of way more deadly situations than just getting bored. Then again, it is deadly. It can lead you down the road to letting depression drag you backwards or an anxiety filled future.

However, with a bit of preparation and courage it can be a place where you can jump into new ideas and convictions. Like in my own micro ruts as a musician, I look beyond my own bubble for new things to do be it for a break or otherwise.

…Sometimes it really is as simple as taking a walk and giving your mind a break…

Even with the more major ruts sometimes it really is as simple as giving your mind a break to gather your bearings. Then soon after you need a concerted plan to bring focus…which I will talk about in the next blog.

Until next time, #setyourselfonfire and watch yourself blaze a trail.
