A New Dawn Chorus

I found this song while watching a special Netflix collaboration with Thom Yorke for his latest album Anima. I’ve been a big Radiohead fan for a long time. I remember playing ‘Paranoid Android’ in my college days trying in vain to nail the final guitar solo, always coming close but it would just slip away from me. However, one song caught my ear and heart…and just resonated so deeply it brought me to tears.

If you could do it all again, A little fairy dust
A thousand tiny birds singing, If you must, you must
Please let me know, When you’ve had enough
Of the white light, Of the dawn chorus…

Having been a fan for so long, I’ve always connected with either Yorke’s or Radiohead’s work because of the relentless pursuit of honesty, depth and examination of the human condition. Be it ugly (You And Who’s Army) fantastical (Pyramid Song) or sobering (Videotape) I’ve always been fascinated and enchanted by them. Dawn Chorus taps into the essence of what I aid people with. I always label it self awareness, but it can also be transformation.

In the process of transformation, you have to leave what has no worth behind and renew yourself again. It might be eventually a beautiful thing, but it can be tiring, frustrating and most of all painful if you can’t let go easily.

You take a little piece, Then you break it off
It’s a bloody racket, It’s the dawn chorus…

Painful to the level where death then rebirth becomes something you view apathetically until something breaks. Something clicks. All of a sudden, the dawn chorus gets right into your heart and resonates deeply and you’ve arrived. Until the next piece of the journey starts again of course.

This song also reminds me of all the friends I’ve lost to death too quickly. Trying to plod on and live life again, slowly moving through the grieving process. Dealing with the pain, dealing with the hole in your heart until one day, you outgrow the hole and you live. You learn to live.

Until next time folks, #embraceinfinity and click the caption on the picture above to listen for yourself.
