Both kinds of life and seeing the horizon

Something over the weekend clicked and started putting me onto a forward path. I don’t know if it was the good food, my partner coming around to stay the night or the energies finally putting things clearly as a stop sign at a crossroads. I guess as I joined a bunch of individuals to share physical movements, styles, traditions and work towards a common goal I finally got out of my own way.

I was absolutely exhausted, sore and depleted when I slowly made my way to public transport and eventually home to a bath of epsom salts. My mind processed everything that happened over the last four hours. I thought of myself being of two worlds, one of reality and the mundane and the other of creation, like an amphibian means ‘both kinds of life’ in Greek.

I finally came to my own proverbial shoreline after living on land a heck of a lot. I could see an endless horizon of water waiting for me. At first, I was puzzled and uncomfortable. I haven’t danced in a long time and felt out of position. However, as the movement was shown, repeated and repeated again, the muscle memory started to register and string things together. Hard to grasp arm positions became second nature and details emerged. I leapt into the water and suddenly I could swim better than I thought!

Emerging from my epsom salt bath and drying myself off, I realised all my principles had that very same process. The uncertainty, the introduction and the processing until 2+2=4 and your brain can’t fathom how you got there. Its obvious, but its blinding when so many things are occupying your time.

I’m learning to flex that muscle every day. Its hard and its easy for you to take your eye off things easily, but I remind myself of that simple joy of looking at the horizon. The unexplored mountain, the blank page of a book, the blank screen before any notes are programmed in. Your pulse might increase, but your very spirit cannot wait to get started.

What’s your horizon that’s calling you?

Until next time, #embraceinfinity
