Solving the unsolvable

I remember looking at a Rubik’s cube at a very young age. Sitting down and playing with it. Manipulating the surfaces and not having a clue how to solve it.

I was just a kid though. Born into a hardworking Afro Caribbean family in the early 80s, I was told to work hard and you could do anything. Yet this problem evaded me.

Flash forward twenty five years. You’ve got YouTube tutorials dedicated to the actual methodology of not only solving a Rubik’s cube, but doing so in 3.4 seconds!

So if solving a Rubik’s cube is easier than it was for my self in the mid 80s, what changed between then and that moment?

I found myself with my own puzzle, which I couldn’t see a clear path to escape. I was divorced, had my dreams snuffed out and in a job I hated. The type of job where you have to remain checked out or you’ll suffer way more.

One day led to a dreadful conclusion. I just wanted the pain to end…permanently. I walked out of my workplace and up a flight of stairs to the rooftop. Walked along the narrow path and climbed over the railings and held on, ready to let go. It was that simple. Let go and it would be over. Peace and silence.

Of course, I never let go. I wouldn’t be here to write this if I did. However, over the next few blogs I’m going to tell you how I came back.

It’s a long read, but I only do this in hope it helps somebody to solve their unsolvable problem.
